Meet Dr. Michael Menis

Dr. Menis has a devoted passion for oral surgery and currently serves in the United States Navy Reserves, where he helps ensure the readiness of Sailors and Marines.

About Dr. Menis

A native of Chicago, Dr. Michael Menis was inspired at a young age to pursue a career in medicine. He fell in love with oral surgery and enjoys that he can combine his human physiology and problem-solving interests.

Dr. Menis is passionate about helping others and providing solutions to their oral health problems. He wants his patients to feel taken care of, and he enjoys taking the time to get to know each patient beyond their oral surgery needs. His dental interests lie within dento-alveolar surgery, including teeth extractions and impacted teeth exposure. He currently serves on the medical staff at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.

Education and Residency

Dr. Menis received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry in 1986, where he met Dr. Lehman. Following dental school, Dr. Menis completed a 1-year general dental residency, followed by a 1-year residency in anesthesiology at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Miami. Then, he completed a 4-year residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1992. Following his residency, Dr. Menis spent a year in a clinical fellowship in TMJ arthroscopy under the mentorship of Dr. Joseph McCain. He relocated back to Chicago and teamed up with his colleague Dr. Gregory Lehman to open their oral surgery practice.

Certifications

Dr. Menis has served as a member of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons Political Action Committee (OMSPAC) Board of Directors and a Councilman in the Illinois Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. In 2010, he received the AAOMS Political Activist of the Year award for his advocacy on behalf of patients and the oral surgery profession. In 2013, Dr. Menis was commissioned as an officer in the United States Naval Reserves, where he helps ensure the readiness of Sailors and Marines.

Outside of Work

When he’s not at work, Dr. Menis enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He enjoys reading and fitness—he’s a competitive Masters level swimmer!
